About Te Kainganui

Te Kainganui was set up in 1981 with the merger of two Mount Cook parent groups – both parent co-operatives.

We’ve kept the parent co-operative structure, because we think it’s the best way to make sure all parents can have a say in the care and education our tamariki receive.

Though parents oversee Te Kainganui, day-to-day running of the centre is a job for qualified teachers. We employ a full-time Head Teacher and qualified, registered teachers.

Communicating as equal partners

“Transitions into the centre and to school are flexible and individualised. Teachers support parents’ choices and provide a good range of information to them.” (ERO Report, 2015)
