What is a parent co-operative?

Our centre operates as a parent-run co-operative.

This means that parents oversee the overall operation and direction of Te Kainganui through a management committee. The Head Teacher and another teacher are also represented on this committee.

General co-operative meetings ensure participation of parents in making decisions for the education and care of their tamariki.

Parents are not required to work with tamariki or to organise the day-to-day running of the centre – we have qualified teachers to do that! However you are welcome to contribute to the programme at the centre in consultation with teachers.

Parents are required to contribute to jobs at the centre. This helps to keep our fees at a reasonable level.
